This webinar will introduce clinicians and researchers to the foundations of exchangeability and causal inference methods for measured confounding. This session revisits the exchangeability assumption in the context of respiratory health research and introduces two classical approaches for restoring exchangeability when confounders are measured: inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) and g-computation. The first half covers the theory behind each method, including how propensity scores are constructed and how standardization works. The second half is a hands-on practical session in R, where participants apply these methods to a worked example. Prior experience with R is encouraged but not required.
Participants will receive installation instructions and a list of required R packages one week before the session.

CRRN Lung Health Registry The lung health registry has been developed by researchers of CRRN and public consultation. The registry invites adult Canadians who are interested in their lung health, who may or may not have lung disease, to complete an on-line survey about their current health and respiratory symptoms. The registry will help match interested participants with ongoing lung health research studies in Canada. Interested in Participating in Research: Visit the CRRN Lung Health Registry https://portal.rimuhc.ca/cim/redcap/surveys/?s=Y4N9X8HJN4T4YHMC |
The Canadian Respiratory Research Network (CRRN), in close partnership with the Canadian Lung Association, the CIHR, and other partners, will improve patient care and outcomes for patients with chronic respiratory disease.
We will do this through creation of an enduring national network of investigators and research platforms to enable innovative, collaborative, respiratory health research that influences decision making and ensures high quality training and career development of a new generation of investigators.
Mission: The goals of the network are to bring together researchers across disciplines and research themes/pillars to work together in a coordinated fashion in order to improve understanding of the origins and progression of chronic airway diseases in Canada.
